Donald Trump is consistently polling higher than Mitt Romney ever polled at this point in the 2012 election. Below is the aggregated polling reported by Huffington Post’s Pollster in 2012 and 2016. Trump is incredibly flat in his support. He appears to be having difficultly crossing 40% support, but so did the 2012 eventual nominee Romney.
Romney was basically dominant before the turn of the year in the markets, despite two spells of losing in the polls to Newt Gingrich and one spell losing to Rick Santorum. Trump has not has as dominant, tussling with Marco Rubio. But, after last night’s dominant victory Trump is approaching Romney’s likeliness of victory in 2012. Which is very high for this early in a contested election.
